1d - Parties is a common synonym for do's so approaching = to + dos = fusses
11a shires
That should have been shown as SHI(R)ES
Putting up with = ENduring.

Thanks very much pbeach and Catron - I always like to understand the cryptic clues and of course I got 11a wrong - if I had put SHIES I wouldhave understood the cryptic. So now I can complete the Sir Lancelot and Prize Crosswords and post them
