I is the abbreviation for Iodine. Iodine is essential for efficient functioning of the thyroid, so I suppose it could be likened to something containing (a pod) iodine.

According to google. IPOD (or iodide peroxidase) is responsible for thyroid disorders.

Doesn't seem a very solid link to me though.
