I am struggling with 18a (reddish-brown colour). I think 7d is emanate, which makes 18a *a*e* (8d being beater). Have I gone wrong somewhere?

Hazel ?

Thank you Atsgran - I always thought hazel was a sort of greenish-brown but you could be right.
I've also pondered CAMEL for the answer. I always imagine hazel to be lighter than reddish/brown.
It is Hazel. The Oxford dictionaries give 'reddish-brown or greenish brown'.
