1 "A" apparently
6 google says "earthquake". I've not heard of it myself.
Again from google:

5 - Actually the acronym is not very well known, but stands for:

Lay
Against
Gradient

and is common in some civil engineering circles.
6 seems to be called the Bunny Hug and sounds like a waste of good whisky!
4 - tyrepill says:
Forage Harvester...Anag "father rages over"
2 - Pitman developed shorthand and the short hand on a clock (the hour hand) moves slowly?

Trouble is I think it was Isaac Pitman which would be Mr Pitman rather than Mrs.
Did Jenny Pitman train l'Escargot?
2. The only "Mrs Pitman" I ca think of is Jenny.

A Jenny is a female donkey. They move quite slowly??????
2. The most famous Mrs Pitman is Jenny Pitman ( a racehorse trainer) so could it be "Spinning Jenny" ?
(though I'm not sure of the connection between spinning and moving slowly!)
Wrong again! L'Escargot was trainied by someone completely different but I still favour Jenny Pitman as being the subject of the clue
There is a plant called creeping jenny.
The only pitman I can think of is 'shorthand'
