I do so admire the way you're steadily working through these old Times Crosswords. And it's very interesting to see how much the style of clueing has changed in the last 70 years.

Thank you. This is the last one in the book so I shan't have to keep bothering you. I must say I have enjoyed doing these oldd ones. I agree about the way the clues have changed. In some ways the modern ones are easier as you usually get some idea about what the final answer should mean but in other ways they are more difficult.

I didn't have any that I was sure of when I posted the clues. I now have: 8d the 2nd letter of the 1st word is (I think) i and the 2nd letter of the 2nd word is n
16d 3rd letter is i and last letter might be h.
