If you'll all excuse the variation on the usual Q&P type thread, I'd like to once again thank all of my friends on AB that offered their best wishes to myself & my dearest friend, after she'd been diagnosed with cancer.

I promised several of you that I'd keep you informed as to what was happening, so here it is

She has primary (high-grade, inoperable) cancer of the breast & of the lymph nodes, with secondary indications on her liver & one lung.

Her consultant offered her the choice between an immediate course of chemotherapy, or hormone therapy using "Arimidex", with chemo to follow should that prove ineffectual.

LOL! She almost bit his arm off, choosing to go down Hormone Road, rather than Chemo Avenue. She's well aware that it doesn't work for everyone, & that there are side-streets that must be taken into consideration, but is content that she's made the right decision & will hear "You have arrived at your destination" just as the fireworks go off!

Her family & friends are 100% behind her, egging her on with plenty of black humour (yes, she loves it! - & I've done the "You must feel a right tit" joke) & general encouragement.

I'm allowed to say that her name is Anne - she's sitting here with me now, she's read all the wonderful messages that you posted & would like to add something of her own, so we'll post a separate thread in a little while.

For myself, to all of my friends out there, thank you you don't know me or Anne, yet your kindness & generosity of spirit continue to make me proud to be a part of this community.

Hi Lie-in King and thanks for updating us. My best wishes go to you and to Anne (nice to know her name!) I do hope things go well for you Anne. Kindest regards, judy
Happy Christmas and I hope 2009 brings you and your friend Anne all the best news you could wish for. xx Freebi
Thinking of both of you
Love the black humour, my husband very suddenly became disabled in 2003 at only 55 and without our very odd, to some people, sense of humour we wouldnt survive
He says something good comes out of something bad so the blue badge, the 10% off coffee and all the other perks are high on our list lol
Although I don't know you and your friend Anne I would like to add my best wishes to both of you and to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year and to hope that everything will work out well for Anne whichever road she decides to go down.

I had guessed you were referring to something of this nature, so I would like to add my best wishes to you and Anne. I would like you to know you aren't alone at this stressful time. I've just returned from chauffeuring my son from the Marsden (he had a bone-marrow transplant last month) and I am always humbled by the bravery shown by the post-chemo patients and indeed their friends and relatives. Kindest regards and all the best for 2009. Rose.

Thank you all - you astonish & cheer us with every kind word!

If I may be allowed, I'd like to add that we're also thinking of smouse ( we like Mr smouse!) & Rose - please accept our very best wishes to you, your son & your family.

Those wishes are extended to everybody here - whether you're hale & hearty, poorly yourself or looking after someone that is ill - you've made our Christmas special, so please know that you're not on your own & you have love & affection streaming toward you!!

Best wishes to you both and I hope the treatment works. It's good to see that you both retain your senseof humour, that will help you along. Happy Christmas to you both. Anne
Dear Lie-in King I have been off line for a few days and I am so sorry to hear about your friend Anne - please tell her that our thoughts are with her . It's amazing how many people have responded and we wanted to be included.

I am a great believer in attitude being a great medicine and Anne certainly seems to have that in spades and she is lucky to have a friend like you.

Kind regards and loving thoughts GG +1
