Brownie promise. Promise to do whatever on a casual basis in conversation. (or more formally like promise to do something for someone who is on the way out....).
My friends wife said to him that she wanted to renew their wedding vows. He replied "I didnt realise they had expired"!

Do they have to be personal pledges or just the words I promise as theres the I promise to pay the bearer on our notes.
