40 Artsy? (hidden in clue)
17a Matrics?
Are there special instructions for this crossword ?
If certain letters are struck off then :
17 could be atriums (no "e")
38 no fear (no "y" from rayon)
Well worked out ulysses -

Well that explains why none of this was making much sense :-)
35 F + L + AMEN + COO; drop the "O"
25 EARTH (anag of hearts; drop the "S")
as 17d is AP(S)E, your starting letter for 24a is incorrect.
You have once again chosen an extremely difficult puzzle with which to "learn the ropes"!
Would that make 24a Something like PHTHISIS
SH(o)P + THIS IS ?
24a now begins with the "S" from APSE
Is this a new low? Help being asked by people trying to do Crossword Centre puzzles? Stick to the Sun for god's sake.
quizmonkey- go swing on another branch please :-) That comment of yours is very patronising + unkind + not in the slightest bit necessary. Think your nails need cutting by the way ;-)
Thank you slaney, I didn't know that this crossword existed. It certainly would have helped if we had had the instructions. But, as Quizmonkey has suggested, it is harder than the norm, and, to work out the unclued entries does require some specialised knowledge of crossword setters.
