Thank you for your reply ,as I also have an "I "in the same place as I believe Erin is regarded as the Irish name for Ireland!

Presumably they're expecting us to write Eire, which is the Rebublic of Ireland, not Ireland as a whole.

The clue for 5D reads "The Irish name for Ireland".

I'd be interested to know if anyone else agrees with me - I'm in a pedantic frame of mind today!! It must be the dreary weather!!

Eire 1 The Irish Gaelic name for Ireland, often used to mean the Republic of Ireland...

'Erin' is used as an archaic or poetic name, which the clue doesn't specify
Surely the l is in 6down which is soCks. If you had erin the r would be incorrect.

Many thanks to you all I had 6d wrong. 5d eire
6d socks 10a atrocious. All finished now so can enjoy the rest of the day.
I also had Erin but not yet worked out 10 across so am now undecided
