Squarebear.Oops just looked at my original question, daft me, the letters l have for 217a (CRI>>>>OSS)zigzag pattern and 208d (D>>>L>TE)devastate.Plase accept my apologies, need a good stiff drink or a cuppa to get my brain going again, its the sun going to my head, not used to it.Many thanks.
Yes, crisscross and decimate are correct but Kellee, I made an exception to my rule of NOT helping when the closing date is SO far away and it's a puzzle that I'm entering, and also, because decimate was actually very easy to find by looking through the DECs in Collins, you could have done that too!
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
Thank you so very much slaney and turra, slaney you are a mountain of knowledge. Thank you so very much tallulah, l only have oxford and chambers not collins, perhaps if l talk nicely to one of my boys l might be able to obtain one, you have been a great help. l am now having fun with the stinker, and the baffler.Good luck to you all in your quest ttfn.
Tallulah, my computer has just thrown me out, configuring updates, and whilst l was waiting my youngest son told me that he had a collins in his uni box, stuff he used at uni, and we looked up the word decimate and it was there and had a little box all of its own, makes interesting reading. 0nce again many thanks ttfn.
Many of the dictionaries are available online through your County Library. Mine does all sorts of encyclopaedias too like Britannica and Groves. OED is there too.
We find reference books in charity shops and at jumble sales. I expect you'd find it a bit difficult with the wheel chair but I'm sure children would look out for you. Sometimes the library has book sales too.
I love it when I've found the elusive answer. Really satisfying. We were once stumped on the clue "good oil" It was to be found nowhere but we stopped in a little Cornish town on our way home from our hols with just 1 hour before the post went and in the very small branch library we found the answer was "canola" Write that in your book! I think it comes from oil seed rape and is not good at all!
