Spelling advice appreciated for 11a squared or dressed stone used in building or facing a wall (6) either ASHLAR or ASHLER. Also 21d The first day of each month in ancient Roman (7) either CALENDS or KALENDS
Looks like either spelling is right, Telegraph yet again poses us all with a dilemma over spelling. Yet, Telegraph crosswords have been having more than one possibility on not just spelling recently. Have contacted the Telegraph on this matter yet they have not replied surprisingly. Good luck kenbraham. Warm wishes, on a sunny day, Bea :-)
Many thanks also to Beatrice35. Certainly Chambers gives "ashlar" and "calends" as first choice with the other spelligs as alternatives. If the DT were to say which dictionary they work to it would help. Hope you get an answer eventually. I will be watching this space.
