I must admit that I am now over the initial shock of being selected to set the Link Words for the next four weeks of this month of June. I only started on the MM (and KM) trail last September, when I was introduced to both games by ex-champion cliffyg. I meet up with cliffyg on a fairly regular basis throughout the year as we share a keen interest in The Noble Game of Cricket; both indoor (winter) and outdoor (summer). One day (between innings) I happened to overhear him talking about "predicting link words" and thought, "That's for me"! Little did I think that I would be in this esteemed position so early with the responsibility of having to nominate a set of words for you to challenge the established AB Experts.

All Sports (not just Cricket) have always been prominent in my social life. My mother says that I have been sports mad from a very early age. She became so sick of me continually asking who won this and who scored what, that she began to teach me to read the football results before I reached the age of four years. From that time, I have always read newspapers from the back (sports) to the front (news) until they brought out a separate Sports section.

Welcome to the first of what I hope will be four weeks of MM Linking completely free of gremlins. My adopted name of deecee131 is based on a first name of Don and a surname starting with the letter C. Hence, the title conferred last night by crofter of Don Corleone aka The Godfather is not too far off the mark. Certainly, no gremlin would dare venture on to my turf unless it would like to share its bed with a horses head!

the Derby?
I must get down to the business in hand before I tempt fate any further. It goes without saying that I shall follow the rules relating the word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one or more of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when my selected words will be declared, and points awarded in the usual manner. My first set of words to be linked should appear below at 9.00am.

I, Don Corleone, challenge you to predict my first set of words based on:
