One of my landlords chickens died yesterday because of the heat, Sarah found her sat on a clutch of eggs, totally lifeless.
I am feeling worse because her best bud Thelma (she was louise) is pacing the fence calling for her freind to come and bust her out ( those 2 were really bad for escaping hence the names!)
Has anyone else heard of critters dying in this heat???
Feeling really sad tonight she was my fav chook and i shall miss her dreadfully.

Ah thats sad. I have just been down the garden to put Percy away. We thought he was a pheasant chick but he is now very def a chicken!! My Son In Law found him playing with the traffic and rescued him. Never thought I would get fond of a chicken. !!

aye they steal ur hear then break it, i did not much like them at first (they poo alot) but when i got to know them individually, they have grown on me!
Aaw! firewatch. So sorry about the chicken. Yes they are affected by too much heat, much the same with ducks who at least are fortunate in being able to get into water to cool down. Sorry too about her chicken friend. Schutz.

I think this will work!
With global warming air conditioned coops will become a necessity.
Nice picture, guess it was somewhat colder when that was taken! Rather like the feral pigeons that I loathe, once you get acquainted with an individual bird they worm their way into your heart. So sorry for you.
Hi firewatch:

Indeed a sad little tale. When I was a lad we kept bantams and I remember bawling my eyes out a few times when one expired.
Yep, you do get attached to them. And they do seem to have their own little personalities.

Let's hope your landlord gets one or two more and puts a smile back on your face, and cheers Thelma up too.

Firewatch. You link doesn't work, can you try again please, I'd love to see it. Schutz.

try that one, Thelmas already up and callinghopefully in a few days she will settle down, she looks like a ragamuffin some of her feathers are falling out poor thing!
Sorry to hear that firewatch - love the picture btw. We do grow to love our animals and they become part of our lives so it's natural to miss her. I hope Thelma does settle soon - perhaps a new friend will be what's needed for her xx
Thanks Firewatch, for the photo (this one worked fine). Little Louise was so pretty, bless her. Hope Thelma soon settles. Any news of your landlord getting her a new friend.
