During the Second World War the Football Association started a new competition called the Football League War Cup. In 1941 137 games were playede (inc: replays) with the finalists being Preston North End and Arsenal. The final was played at Wembley in front of a 60,000 crowd. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Preston North End won the replay at Ewood Park and the prize of the FOOTBALL LEAGUE WAR CUP.
