all i can come up with is

5 Groucho (he is a brother and ready could mean `on your marks)??
17 eophyte fits your letters but i cannot equate it to the clue
17 is OOPHYTE
OO = egg PHYTE = plant

oophyte (ō′ō fÄ«t′, ō′É™-)
noun
in plants undergoing alternation of generations, as ferns or mosses, that generation in which the reproductive organs are developed

Etymology: oo- + -phyte

Thank you both. OOPHYTE looks good and Groucho fits well but where does courage come in? Cheers, Andy
