Sounds like it should be showiness but this is a noun and the answer should be an adjective!

I agree with you writesbad.

The Saturday Express isn't much better. In yesterday's small crossword the clue was Sea Eagle (3). The Sea Eagle is also known as the ERNE but very rarely also the ERN. Clearly they chose to use this unusual spelling just to fill up the blanks as they couldn't come up with anything better.

Crossword compilers always play fast and loose with the English language.
