After an account of my early life on the NE coast on Rocky Island (suggesting ROUGH) overlooking a harbour (suggesting FISH) through which ran the BURN ~ together with reference to school (suggesting CLASS), it should come as no surprise that I went with the following links:

Club CLASS
ROUGH Diamond
Heart BURN
Spade FISH (!)

With the card suits in the correct bidding order in Bridge, the awkward one was “Spade Fish” ~ given in Chambers as “a marine fish of N American coastal waters, with a deep, flattened body”. I may not be so explicit with my hints in the future!

On some quite general points:
Welcome to newcomer mostyn1, who sort of slipped through the net last week!
Congratulations to Joanna Ont-ice for her recent win with The Spectator Crossword!
Greetings to fellow mathematician Grenmus!
Don’t worry tearinghair, the next Dragonfly Quiz should be out by Christmas!
I’m sure that Pauline will make sure that everyone hears of it!
It was weird that MM Links and KM Links both included the word: Diamond!

Now down to business. It took only the third entrant, who was rained off from her usual car boot sale, to spot a ROUGH DIAMOND when she sees it. Yes, evasajo ~ followed immediately by lysander and Jools (and later slaney) were the first to pick up bonuses of TWO POINTS. Truth to tell you couldn’t find four more polished diamonds if you tried! Then came miss meg once again travelling in style by CLUB CLASS to make the second hit and claim her bonus of TWO POINTS.

With two hits discovered, x-ray extended the run of winners and even eclipsing them by repeating BOTH earlier hits for FOUR POINTS! This achievement was matched by Strix who himself is a Rough Diamond, but had done his homework to add to his tally the new hit HEART BURN for another FOUR POINTS. Never since Burke and Hare has there been such a sinister partnership, but I must declare that x-ray and Strix (the two x-rated miscreants) should share the coveted title “Hot Shots of the Week”!
*** Across the land the peasants moan ***
*** And banshees emit a dreadful groan! ***

With only one challenging link to find, I was delighted to see that joto actually managed to land the elusive SPADE FISH for a well-deserved TWO POINTS. In the wind-down in the game from this point onwards, only wickedtongue picked up a single point before ladyalex closed down the game with a laudable performance of TWO hits scoring a total of Two Points.

The League Table after this second week is:

SIX POINTS: Strix & tearinghair
FOUR POINTS: Dustybun, miss meg, paulineward & x-ray
THREE POINTS: Jools, joto & ladyalex
TWO POINTS: beejay, Christiana, evsajo, grannydi, lysander & slaney
ONE POINT: patchett, seekeerz, twix & wickedtongue

This week, I managed to slow down the advance of tearinghair ~ but now the deadly Strixnine has caught up and that puts me in even greater danger. I am making plans to leave the country!

What will happen in the next round is anybody’s guess.
Make sure that you tune in and find out.

Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

:o)
Hi crofter. I'm not exactly a newcomer .... it was nice of you to welcome me though lol ..... you know me as teacher1 ...... but I've been having problems signing on under that name ! :-) It's not affecting the scoring though ..... as I can't seem to link any recently ..... but I will keep on trying.
Hope the babysitting went ok crofter, as I said on Friday. It'll be our turn next weekend so not sure if I'll get to post any links but I'll try. Well done to the joint Hot Shots and to the leaders and Thank You crofter for both the interesting links and your continued work with the abacus. Jools xx
Thanks Crofter. And wouldn't it be lovely if Ont-ice could just get at least one correct solution in the MM links. You will note that I took your clues to be maths and cards when I posted Bridge Club and Square Diamond. Can't win em all I suppose.
Didn't cover myself with glory this week then! It averages out nicely, though, which should please you mathematicians out there. (I didn't get beyond O level maths, and that was in the days of separate arithmetic, algebra and geometry papers....)
Thanks crofter.
At least I am on the scoreboard. Will watch out for the clues next week Crofter!.
Thanks.
Hurrah! I'm on the leaderboard ! Haven't been there for ages and ages.

Well done to x-ray and Strix and thanks to crofter/Krophta.

Roll on the next Dragonfly!
Thanks crofter for another weekend of MM links.
Well, that's the first time I have achieved the honour of "hot shot" and who better to share this coveted award with than Strix .... a fellow Shrubbery male amongst the ladies on a Friday evening
Looking forward to your next quiz crofter, although I am currently struggling with Gen2s masterpiece.
Have a good week everybody..
I am actually on the score sheet !!!!!! Thanks Crofter for your choice of links. ( I will probably be around more now as weather is getting worse so no car boots!!)
Well done Xray and Strix, see it pays to visit the Shrubbery !
