Puzzle Monthly in Receivership
2 Answers
I have subscribed to Puzzle Monthly for many years and always regarded it as the best puzzle magazine of its type. Sadly however, because I was a subscriber, I received a letter from the official receiver informing me that Accolade Publishing (Puzzle Monthly's owners) had gone into receivership. This explains why I did not receive Issue 11 due to go on sale two or three weeks ago and was unable to find a copy in the newsagents. Hopefully someone will be found to carry on with the magazine, but meanwhile does anyone have any thoughts on an alternative magazine offering a similar range of different types puzzles with a goodly number offering cash prizes - albeit modest sums of a few pounds. Relaxing in front of the fire just isn't the same without Puzzle Monthly!

I've been a subscribere for years . .I only recently renewed my subscription too .I wondered if there was something wrong when I tried to access the website and it was unavailable .I've been wondering why it hasn't turned up and had put it down to the postal strikes .
The only thing I can recommend DGR is Lovatts to which I have subscribed for years .Various prizes including cash and several magazines published monthy .I shall miss Place Your Alphabets :(

Many thanks shaneystar2 for the suggestion. I looked at the Lovatts web site you mentioned and The Puzzle Collection looks interesting. I think I shall take out a six months subscription to see what it is like. Puzzle Monthly will be sorely missed though, come what may. I hope someone comes along to take over the magazine - it has changed hands before since I started to subscribe without its essential character changing too much. Fortunately my subscription would have fallen due at the end of this month (November) so I have only lost out on one, or possibly two, Issues. As a subscriber you should hear from the Official Receiver also - but I doubt if there would be much chance of recovering any remaining balance. We subscribers must be well down the pecking order list!
Interestingly, I am still receiving "Compers Weekly" giving news of various third party competitions etc from [email protected] despite Accolade being in Receivership!. Last week it included a reduced subscription offer to "Prize Draw Winner" (one of Accolade's titles) a sample of which was given in the last Puzzle Monthly that I received (Issue 10). I sent an e-mail to "Tom" in reply, saying that I understood Accolade Publishing to be in Receivership and asking what the situation was but I have not yet received a response. On the other hand, the e-mail was not returned as "undeliverable" and I only sent it yesterday, so perhaps there is still hope of some sort of recovery.
