1 across, EARTH:- C?A?B?R
I noticed that people have put CLABBER for this answer and would be grateful if you could advise where this answer was found as I checked clabber and the answer given is "sour, curdled, etc" I have checked a number of dictionaries and cannot find the answer on them so would welcome any help given

i put chamber
I've suggested Chamber for this (earth = underground chamber where a fox lives). I agree with your definition for Clabber, it didn't make sense to me either.
type in clabber ^
clabber also used in N Ireland to mean mud-earth -dirt etc
I went for clabber - it's in Chambers, defined as mud
