Preston is Northend. I dont know of a coastal town called that, though there is a Southend. Just to let you know that you can add to your own posts.

Thanks grasscarp having a senior moment No I cant find Northend on that coast I had thought of that to start with because number 47 is Football opposite to No 2 = so I put Southend but that answer is only 7 letters ???? Freebi
Preston play at Deepdale which is also a village in Lancashire
Question Author
Thankyou jodder but its a coastal town between Dover and Felixstowe Thanks Freebi
Freebi, I'm sure you're absolutely right in thinking it's Southend. As you & Grasscarp say ... Preston F.C. = Northend .... but 'No', so it's Southend (8)
Question Author
Thanks Kettledrum but its got to be a coastal town between Dover and Felixstowe ? Freebi
Southend is on the coast in Essex
Surely Southend-on-Sea IS between Dover & Felixstowe
Question Author
Yes Southend-on-sea is on the right coast but the number of letters would be 8-2-3 not 8 ? or am I just not seeing it ? freebi
It can only be SOUTHEND. The clue fits, the number of letters fits. OK, the town is really Southend-On-Sea, but is usually referred to as Southend, in the same way that Kingston-Upon-Hull is called Hull, and Newcastle-On-Tyne is called Newcastle.

Thankyou myperfectcousin I can see what you mean but then number 47 Football opposite to No2 = 7 you would think that would be Northend which is 8 letters and not in the right place ? tearing hair out now!!!! Freebi
I think that the answer to number 47 is Preston - from 'Preston North End FC' - it fits the number of letters and also the direction of the journey!
