Hi beanpole it could be referring to The Jack in bowling, players have to line their ball up to try and hit it. Just a thought.
Got it! A jack, in electronics, radio, computers, etc. is a socket on the back of the apparatus, and on an amplifier (for example) there is often a "line in" jack or socket. So, to explain the clue: a jack [socket] will accept [take in] this [namely, a line-in plug]. Bingo!
