thanks aquagility I think I'll take your answer.
Oh dear, I wouldn't, I am afraid. The 'Jake' in Chambers dictonary (at least as far as the ninth edition is concerned) is an adjective meaning honest, correct, fine and not the noun that 'a fine' suggests is wanted.
I'd go with Slaney on this one.
