This had a picture on the wrapper (and I think it was moulded into the chocolate as well, but not sure) of 5 boys' faces ranging from thoroughly miserable to absolutely delighted. Under each face was a word ending in 'ion' to express the emotion depicted. The only word I can remember exactly is 'satisfaction', but I'm pretty sure the first was desperation, so this might be your answer.

Thank you both for your kind response. It was a pleasure to be of assistance. It's just that the older one gets, the more fixed the earliest memories become. One poster mentioned Russian toffee, which I can't remember, but I do remember cinder toffee (which can still be bought in specialist shops). Pure toffee seems to have gone out of fashion (bad for the teeth and fillings, I suppose). Anyone remember Penny Dainties?
