i think i remember a song from the late seventies or early eighties with lyrics going something like this : simon templar, simon templar, simon templar, simon.: it was a sort of funny punky song any ideas? what is it called?

The title was "Simon Templar" it was one half of a double A side the other track is probably better known, it was "Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please"

 Name of the band was Splodgenessabounds and it was released in 1980
