Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

This is my first attempt at this crossword and find it difficult to adjust to the setter.
I thought Sunderland but why? thank you .

Sunderland. Definition is City. First 3 letters, sun (Sunday) , are unclued and ignored as per the special instructions. I can think of 2 explanations for the rest - der Land can mean 'of the land' in (very bad) German. (Land can mean region, der can mean 'of the', but not together as a phrase - 'of the region' would be 'des Landes, not der Land).
Or, it could be DDR (former East Germany) in Elan (region in Wales).
Please persevere - Araucaria is regarded by many as the very best setter by a long way.

I don't think the "of" has to go with "the region" - it's just there as a convenient connector in cluespeak. "Der Land" is therefore acceptable so long as the two words themselves are being translated without reference to each other (der is ok for the, land is ok for region, but "the land" together would be das Land)
