O t F ..on the fiddle..

The edge of the plate was known as the fiddle so "on the fiddle" meant he had a good plateful of food that was hanging over the edge. 


 Anyone that got food hanging over the edge was
receiving favours which is where we now get the phrase "on the fiddle".
