My step daughter has to choose a famous women in History to write a project and do a presentation. I've come up with a list of options for her. But it got me thinking, if you had to do this as a project, who would you choose and why?
I think I would choose Elizabet the 1st. The span of her life ie her father, her brothers and sister, could make great reading. Walter Raleigh could also be fitted in. Yes it would have to be Elizabet for me.
Mary Seacole, a coloured lady, virtually unheard off now a days, who despite all the obstacles placed in her path nursed soldiers in the Crimea with great success and though generally now forgotten she was in her day as famous as Florence Nightingale
Mary Seacole black nursing pioneer same time as Florence Nightingale or Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson the first woman to gain a medical qualification in the UK and also the UKs first woman mayor or
Betty Boothroyd first female speaker and very interesting life
Elizabeth Fry
Edith Cavell
Mary Queen of Scots (there is a local element to that one)
Catherine of Aragon (again, local)
Grace Darling
Emmeline Pankhurst
Lady Jane Grey
Marie Curie
Amelia Earhart
I tried to pick a cross section and have given her a short biography for her to choose from.
If I was doing this, I'd probably choose Katherine Swynford.
