Do you ever have the feeling that Fate has dealt you a hand that you don’t really deserve? Well, that’s how I feel about taking on the role of setter with nothing more than a Bronze Medal to show for my efforts last month. But “He Who Must Be Obeyed” has spoken, and I dare not dissent. I recall the quotation: “Some are born great. Some achieve greatness. Some have greatness THRUST upon them”. Feeling duly THRUST upon, I move ahead!
Of course, “Aquagility” is not my real name. It was my father’s telegraphic address (in the days when there were such things) and though my mother thought it rather cute, when it came to my baptism the vicar would have none of it.
Eclipsed only by my arrival, 1926 was noted as the year of the General Strike and the publication of Winnie-the Pooh. I already had a brother called Christopher, so of course I got landed with a name which took me half a lifetime to accept: Robin. I suppose I should be grateful that I was not called “Eeyore”!

Rather surprisingly, I found even this name-tag rather less squirm-worthy than the original. As so often in Life, it was a girl who eventually won me over into accepting “Robin” as a name to carry with more than a little pride. She claimed to like the name and that was that!
Of course, crofter latched straight on to it as a working royal title! Nevertheless, I was reminded of all these links quite recently, when I was required to think of a new password containing both letters and numbers. On a whim I entered “meh00d”. Why? Thinking back (I guess) to childhood games when our back garden became for a little while Sherwood Forest.
Have you ever wondered just why a notorious outlaw, thief and terrorist even (had the word then been coined), should have achieved such popular acclaim? Maybe it was the unpopularity of the opposition, the Sheriff of Nottingham, which gained him so many votes. Many of these thoughts could ring true in today’s political climate! But enough of that!

Here I am, waffling on when I should be trying to think of something nice and nautical for you to get your teeth into. With a five-week month upon us, I must weigh my anchor and get going.
As always, for the every-day running of MM, I will follow the same rule as introduced by crofter on word length. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My first set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
