If there is an alternative spelling they usually accept either as long as it does not interfere with any other answer

I have put Ymir, agree why are the crosswords now putting alternative clues without telling us, same on the You crossword jail or gaol crammed or cramped, All getting rather tricky!!

oscarina , i do 4 crosswords a week , sometimes more, 2 in the express & 2 in the daily record and it is getting worse, the record is terrible for it, it puts seeds of doubt in my mind every time ;-(

The express had a really sneaky one last week, I can't rmember the full clue but it was a hidden word the answer being a bird one stood out Erne (a sea eagle) but the answer was actually Tern both were craftily hidden in the clue

no I went for Erne untill I found 1d started with a T and realised it should have ben Tern
