Has anyone spotted where the IS in legalised comes from? Or is this the 4th week in a row the ST has goofed?

could be that fall = is, as in occur, and so put 'is' in the anagram (amendment) of 'alleged'

I's buy that (just) if the clue read (in some form) "falls". "To fall" can give you "be", but not "is". I suspect the clue originally read "an amendment is alleged to be within the law" but fell victim to the curious editorial activity that occurs between submission and publication. I concede on strict terms the definition can only really be "within the law" in the clue as it stands.
