MM Links September 2010 (Week 1)

I wish you “Good Morning” and bid welcome to all MM Linkers old and new. May I take this opportunity to say how excited I am at being chosen as the Royal Setter throughout the month of September. I consider it an honour and a privilege -- even more so, because I haven’t been submitting entries for all that long. Perhaps it’s a case of “beginner’s luck”. Hitherto, I have been known as “Handbaglady”, but for the next month I have been dubbed “The Lady Radley” for reasons that should become apparent in due course.
I was born at Blackhill, Consett in County Durham and lived there until March 1992. During this time, I lived in five different houses: three of those were before my marriage and two afterwards. I began my education at the local Benfieldside School, where I spent many happy years. On leaving school, I studied Business Studies at the local Technical College and found employment in Newcastle. My first job was as an Office Junior for a painting and decorating firm, which was followed by similar work for the Co-operative Society.

My new role was as a Telephonist manning the switchboard for one of three 8-hour shifts. Over this period one particular incident springs to mind which resulted from a “wrong number”. Our phone number was very similar to that of a local hospital and I was not surprised one night to receive a call from a man who thought he was speaking to the hospital. He was already quite agitated as he was enquiring if his wife had given birth to their first child yet!
I should explain that at that time prospective fathers were not really encouraged to be present at the birth. His nerves went into overdrive when he realised he was connected to the switchboard of the local steel works. I managed to calm him down whilst I dialled the correct hospital number and patched him through. When he eventually found out he was the proud father of a baby girl, he was so grateful for my help that he gave his daughter an extra middle name of “Janice” (named after me!).
After getting married, I continued working until the birth of my first daughter, Jayne Victoria, after which I became a full-time Mum for the next six years.

However at this point in time, I am a full-time MM Links Setter and in preparation for today’s Word Game, I have followed the usual rule on word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My first set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am.
