Sandy do take notice this is Saga magazine for the brainless retard who has retired from the job in the City no less.
In the absence of jenesais I will add:-
I hate the Crossword I never ever finish it, my last thread will testify. The question to 10across is : A change of shift is reportedly something to be postulated. (8)
N-U-E-O- To which some kind person has left the answer to Jenesais earlier thread.
the answer being noumenon. I don't understand it either!

Thank you for posting the clue askyourgran - The OP obviously couldn't be bothered.
In a cryptic clue, 'Reportedly' means 'as you hear it' (not its spelling)
"A change of shift" would imply that there were 'New men on' which is how you would say Noumenon.
"Something postulated" is the definition.
Chambers gives the definition [inter alia] 'something whose existence is postulated but ultimately unknowable'.
