Ladyalex,, I am sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I was shouting when using capitals for the word think, its just that I don't know how to use italics to emphasise!!! !! The E comes from REEVE which i was told would be the answer to 20a Thread ones way through(5) R?E??. I think the answer to be OLIGOCENE but that makes 20a R?E?I

Could be SPENCE...which would fit both Paleocene and Reeve..I think.
Hard to know as I don't have the crossword and you've put too many ? in

Oh dear!! I'm even having trouble with words that aren't in the crossword! REEVE now won't fit in with PALEOCENE as it would make 20a now R?E?L. Aaaaaaaaaarrgh
