thanks to five very clever people who helped me

27a it was Petula Clark who had the hit with Downtown, the only 8 letter word in a Dusty hit is "preacher".
bibblebub, you are correct ,It was indeed Petula Clark ,who had a hit with" Downtown"
dont know why I thought it was Dusty Springfield,However "downtown" slots in nicely with all other answers,So I think Rosebud,(crossword setter)got it wrong!
I was thinking, that maybe the setter got the 8 wrong, and it should have been 7,
as Dusty had a hit with "In the middle of nowhere" and NOWHERE is 7 letters.
What do you think?
"nowhere "Would make answers to 3 other questions wrong.27d,23d,and16d.Which in turn would make answers to 3 other questions wrong.
As we are not doing the quiz, we can't make sense of where we are going wrong.
We can only make suggestions. Sorry if it was the wrong answer, and good luck.
Yes it is difficult, when you haven't the crossword in front of you .It didnt occur to me that it was the wrong Singer ,untill it was pointed out by bibblebub. So I am not 100% sure I have all answers right
Thank you treetops1,does this mean both Petula and Dusty ,had a hit with "downtown"?
The song is included in the musical Dusty - The Original Pop Diva but it was never a hit for Dusty Springfield. On The Good Ship Lollipop is also included in that musical but it would stretch credulity to believe that Dusty had a hit with that too.

If there is evidence that Dusty had success with the song then I suggest someone contacts The Guinness Book Of Hit Singles because it is not listed there.
