Stuck on last few of the 150 Questions in this quiz which I will have to submit in a few days.

Conundrums;

4. I am a 5 letter word but if you remove my first letter I will still sound the same...... if you remove my last letter I do not change........even if you finally remove my middle letter from the remaining three I am still the same word you first said - gone completely. What am I ?

Bookshelf is the only thing I can think of for storing classic books. I think I will have to sleep on this one.

I think it must be that - bookshelf. You store the books side by side, the word (i.e. the writing of the books) is the classics....?

I think people would have rushed to answer it if it was easy, but I do think they may have given up trying because it is so hard. Unfortunately my brain will never let things like this go so I worry at it for days!
Perhaps sleeping on it will help.

Yes,it's strange how one's brain works things out whilst asleep!

Hello again. I've thought of two possible answers but neither gave me that eureka feeling.
Double bed - if doubled could mean side by side and be could be a classic word as in "to be or not to be".
Toolchest - too is given as a synonym for side by side in an online thesaurus, chest = store, l is an abbreviation for latin. Any thoughts?

Hey, thank you, 'Toolchest' that's a really clever one and it fits but I'm not sure whether it fits under the topic 'around the house'

Double bed would be two words so that's discounted, sorry.

Inking in the answers this morning I have 'Pipes' as the answer for the Q. 'Years ago these were made of lead' (same topic) do you think this is correct??

Pipes sounds good to me!

I still favour Bookshelf for the other one - it fits for me in every way - although I did think about Sideboard overnight (as one does!)?

Pipes sounds right. I suppose the toolchest would be in the garage or shed, (if I had one. Mine's in a cupboard!)
I think we're probably trying to be too clever but I still think bookshelf is most unsatisfactory so I will be really disappointed if that is the answer. Mind you I still don't really like Hungary, do you?

Just have to find 40 plants/trees/flowers in a couple of paragraphs of prose and I'm finished and off to the postbox...it has to be in by 11th November.

Hungarians use paprika in their stew which makes their stew a hotter dish. My guess is the answer will be Hungarians, try googling it.

Grandma's Adventure

Find the names of 40 trees bushes and shrubs hidden below and circle each one

Last Spring after trying to rob rooms, a burglar chanced upon and stole my friend's yacht. A thick haze limited his view so he didn't see Grandma, who had a nap each morning in the boat. The man, by the bye, was Scottish. He was balder than a coot but, unlike that bird's plumage, was not at home in the deep water, it being dammed largely for the other yachts up Lane End mooring,

In the middle of the dam, Sonny-Jim panicked. Now awake, Grandma, pleading for him to stay calm on different actions, at once darted off to take the boat's helm, he at her heels. Water rose up, splashing her chest. Nuts and bolts flew off when the boat began to spin erratically round a rock, making the old tub ram. Bleeding and concussion resulted. She began to worry. Would the horn be ample to attract us? In limbo-live or to die, Grandma jumped after fighting flares that began to sparkle and pop. Large amounts of limestone mud were pulling her under. Fighting to survive, could Grandma hog any wreckage on which to hang, or selflessly swim to help him? Would the warnings be echoing unheard?

Walking the dog, woodland by the dam was where we did hear them. Having to deprive the pal mentioned earlier, of irrational rescues, I took a dinghy, started to row and disappeared in the mist in great haste; akin to an Olympic oarsman! Shocked and cold, a soak and wash in a warm bath with soap pleased her, she was now safe, but us not realizing how ill. Owing to the fog, divers only found the Scot on Easter Sunday
