I've been stuck on no. 39 for ages

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEC

I asked the setter on the Fundraising quiz size, and it is important that there are 16 e's. I've seen the answer as TENNESSEE, but can't see how that can fit.

Any help appreciated.

Could it be 10 e's and 6 e's maybe giving you Tennessee?

I was thinking it might break down as follows:-
EEEEEEEEEE that's 10 e's or Tennes, then EEEEEEC which is the other 6 e's giving see = 6 ee's?

If that is Tennessee, it is a realy bad clue. Had it been just 10 Es and a C, that would have been better.

Yes, I agree. I lay in bed last night going through it in my head - I lead I sheltered life - and couldn't come up with anything better.

I have asked the setter whether the number of E's is significant, but they have not replied yet. My question reads:

Is the number of Es in question 39 important, ie. there are 16, does that relate to the answer?
