Seaman (learning how to tie knots it's part of the seamanship course at cadets and afetr you've past I suppose you're a seaman)

Sounds like a fun job not
I think they are just called a knot tier.
there is an international guild of knot tyers.
Got to watch them, they can give you the slip.

I've seen "Knotsman" used but Google reveals "Marlinspike". However that is the tool used to splice ropes. There must be some sort of word ending in "ist" for a knotsman. Need to get my Latin dictionary out.
