MM Links Solutions February 2011 [Week 1]

Lady Alex II set new records by awarding almost 50 points across a record field of over 50 contestants. Her links were based on her early experiences in cookery and she chose to go with link words:

ROCK Salt
Pepper SPRAY
Mustard PLASTER
MALT Vinegar

Her reference to Fanny Craddock, led me to recall the classical story relating to her doughnuts, which was alluded to by BigMac. Decency dictates that I should not pursue this matter any further!

Three of Lady Alex’s Links went immediately as the early birds fought over the worms. Regular to be first off the blocks was roslyn251254 and she went with ROCK SALT and MALT VINEGAR for FOUR POINTS already. She was followed by BigMac wielding a PEPPER SPRAY for the third link word and another TWO POINTS was claimed.

With three links discovered, the stage was set for a feeding frenzy and Two Points were claimed in turn by Dinkypuzzled, tearinghair, beejay1124, centrino and lysander before the clock reached 09.05am. In the midst of these successes came Jools to repeat the earlier result of roslyn251254 to qualify for the same Four Points.

However, these stars were eclipsed by the mighty teacher1 who was able to pull all three early links together to score an impressive SIX POINTS. I have been waiting patiently for teacher1 to hit the jackpot ~ I knew that it was only a matter of time. At last, we can honour him as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK.

Not sure I 'alluded' to it - more like gave away the punchline!

With only one more link word to find, the clock stood at 09.05 when Entrant #16 came on the scene as the very popular Aquagilty who claimed the last scalp with MUSTARD PLASTER together with Rock Salt and Pepper Spray (just a little late to qualify for bonus points) and claimed FOUR POINTS for his three hits.

Thereafter, points were scored mainly in singles and no fewer than ten players got a toehold on the scoreboard. However, worthy of special mention are regulars, kawakiri, deecee131 and gen2, who managed double hits for well-deserved Two Points each.
