Thanks factor30 & boxtops. I believe this character was from an old cartoon slide show I used to watch in the 1960's. I think he used this expression when wanting to make himself scarce during a difficult situation or to avoid household chores. It may have been from 'Little Indian' or 'Yogi Bear' or similar cartoon strip. (I use it often with my wife!! - Now wonder where I got it from).
