Is It Rude To Make Assumptions As To Why Someone Can't Get A Job?

I was on Facebook, and someone in my city asked if someone has any odd jobs, and that she's not looking for a real job. Some guy commented "why can't you just get a job? Addiction problems?" A couple people are jumping down his throat for it, and I kind of agree that it's a rude think to assume like that.

It could have just been a thoughtless jokey comment.

I have seen some nasty comments on FB and also people being total drama queens at something that they perceive to be an insult.

Just ignore them.

I'd have said normal social comment.  You  probably don't know, but in the days when local people spoke to each other this would have  been part of normal local gossip and badinage.

Facebook like any Social Media can be a very nasty place.
