Normally we would have been able to cope and use savings if necessary -- but OH was getting ill (91) and I've just got him home after a horrible 8 weeks in hospsital and rehab. (very bad dose of pneumonia).
I'm having to keep the house at about 22C - which costs.
So, we are now applying for Attendance allowance (to which, we are assured by hospital,G.P. surgery and various other agencies) we are fully entitled.
We'll need it - but it will cost a lot more than just giving us theW.F.A..
i am referring to TTT saying welfare cuts are a good thing after moaning about welfare cuts since welfare was cut.
in honesty though jourdain, it may have affected you but i bet when you went abroad on holiday recently, that cost more than you would have got in WFA? i'm not saying you shouldnt have gone, only that you can't claim to be affected horribly, but still go on foriegn holidays i guess
I'll be surprised if they actually cut any benefits and make any savings in the short term. I think it'll be more of an 'investment' in work coaches and the like to try to get people back into work. Maybe they will not worry too much about existing long term unemployed- they'll just try intervening earlier for new cases before they settle in to a life on benefits. It's not going to be easy. Good luck to them.

Failure after failure.
This government is promising to cut the welfare bill by making it harder to claim PIP and freezing PIP. Many people claiming PIP work full time but rely on that extra money to make ends meet - being disabled can be very expensive. I know someone who is very capable in her job but has to pay for carers and cleaners. Not a choice, a necessity. She would not be able to do her job without her hugely expensive wheelchair and adapted drive-from wheelchair van.
Yes labour hate pensioners, cutting WFA was just one of many things they did to punish them You see older people tend to have assets and that means they vote Tory. Younger people take longer to shed their lefty brainwashing they get from Trobiscite teachers. Eventually though they too realise that real Labour crush the life out of anything they touch.
