I had a bridge fitted some years ago, upper right.  Daft as it sounds I don't know how many teeth are on this bridge, I think one.

There is now a gap between this false tooth and my gum which is not painful but is difficult to keep clean, it traps food.  My water jet sorts it out.

I have discovered there is a part tooth in my gum where this gap is.  I thought the bridge replaced the missing tooth, so what is this part tooth doing in my gum under my bridge?  I can tap it, but it is very small, protuding just a few millimetres.

Can anyone explain this?

Use interdental brushes to clean it and go to a GDP

Question Author

I do use interdental brushes, my question is why is there a part tooth under my bridge?

What is a GDP?

general dental  practitioner, perhaps the dentist fitting it missed the bit of tooth, I have two bridges with only one tooth on each.

Maybe your previous tooth was only broken off and they didn't feel the need to remove the root/sub gum level bit but just to fill the gap with  bridge.

I think as time goes by our gums recede so these little gaps appear. I can feel one at the top of my bridge.

My gums are definitely receding. It's reassuring to know you have similar, Prudie.

barry the part tooth could be working itself out of the gum, mine did, just the body rejecting it
