Is this a crossword, a theme puzzle, any additional information, even if you don't think it's important (as the cops say), would be helpful.

it is a christmas quiz organised by the local church and its a bit vague really. it is headed part 1 ; english towns and cities. the example given is Poirots assistant...........Hastings. if any of that helps?? x

some of the others which i think i have answered correctly (although there are no guarantees) are cathedral or rifle.......winchester
the owls play here...........sheffield
woody meat....oakham
etc etc, god bless the vicar i suppose, he has given my brain a work out for the last week!!!!

Sounds very similar to a Christmas quiz my local tennis club is doing, only that one is lots of cryptic clues to English and Scottish football clubs.
Anyway, what detectives need are LEADS, so I would suggest it's LEEDS, yes ?
