- almost anything that you plug into the mains, yet which requires a lower voltage (e.g. halogen lamp, transistor radio) will have a transformer, working on changing magnetic fields;
- indicators on maximum and minimum thermometers;
- valves in washing machines to turn the water on and off under electronic control;
- microwave ovens have big electromagnet called cyclotron to make heating energy;
- dynamo for lights on bike;
- some hand tools have interchangeable bits that are secured by magnets;
- sewing machine has magnet to keep pins safe and out of mechanism;
- sound and video tape recorders store and read magnetic images on the tape;
