This is why they invited a range of Scientists to critique all the results.
The results seemed to fly in the face of accepted science and so they wanted to be certain that there we no mistakes, errors or gross blunders in the data.

I expect Professor Jim Al-Khalili is relieved that he won't be having to eat his shorts...?

From what I've seen this informations seems to track back to the scienceinsider blog and Edwin Cartlidge his sources are anonymous.

It sounds if you dig into it that we're getting into a game of Chinese whispers here.

Of course the image of Scientists lacking common sense is very attractive to tabloids who are doubtlessly going to have great fun with this.

By the time there's an official announcement I'm sure the myth will be well established in peoples minds
