Scientists studying data collected by the rover's Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instruments have apparently made a major find on the planet...

...lead investigator John Grotzinger described the find as "one for the history books"

Scientists are now double-checking samples of rock and soil ahead of the big announcement set for December 3.
> I expect that it'll be fossilised indication of bacteria, therefore nothing to get really excited about
By which, of course, you mean the single most important scientific discovery ever! Incontrovertible proof of life, no matter how primitive, on other planets changes everything.
Eddie, just remember that the bible does not say that god didn't create life on other planets, just as it doesn't say that the pope's rolex is just a bit, well, ostentatious.
It's obvious - Mars is the original home of mankind and when we used up everything that planet could offer we moved to this planet, The proof is in all the litter we left behind and which has been preserved by the lack of air. (my excuse for this is any theory is better than none, and this is mine)
Antique roadshow did this with angel of the north ..first 1 million pound article. Maybe they are going to admit they dont help you work ,rest of play.
It doesn't matter how much double-checking they say the've done, people who don't like whatever it is that they say they've proved, or who don't want to believe it, will just chalk it off as another science blunder, like those faster-than-light particles of a few months ago. Remember: a "fanatic" is someone who won't accept ANY supposed disproof of what he believes in.
Starbuck, that might not be so far from the truth. ;o)
I seem to recall that some years ago fossils of micro-organisms thought to have originated on Mars were found in a piece of space rock – or something like that. Am I mistaken?
