It's easy! There are just two doors. Open one of them, and there's a car behind. Try again and again! There's a 50/50 chance of a car being behind any particular door.

I was talking to a physics professor, a major force in his field, who tells me that if you open a door, and there is a car behind it, and then you start the game again, the chances of the the car being behind a particular door is no longer 50/50.

I know it sounds weird, but this guy is a big friend of Hawking, and knows his stuff. I don't get it.

A variation of the Monty Hall Problem - a favourite (?) of students of Probability.

Yes it's sound like a description of the second part of the famous Monty Hall problem, is this the whole story?
The probability, before setting off, of opening the correct door out of a continuing choice of two, will diminish with the number of choices. However, after each successful choice the odds are 50/50.
