The only bit where I think it falls down is where he compares the size of the visible Universe to the size of Durham Cathedral ... which is way off in the background, looking quite small.

#fail
I started watching this and thought here we go again, nothing new so far..but from 05:34 - 06:15 I saw the point. Nicely put.

lol, don't bring religion to a science forum!
Question Author
The thread has fallen apart.

Science has been explained by religion.

I KNEW it was a mistake for an airhead like me to venture into the Science section.

I wonder if he's a bit too obsessed with the cathedral?

I think we should make up our own Universe "as big as" things. Like ...

If the Earth was as big as a Pound coin, the Solar System would be the size of Kate Moss's bank balance.
it is quite awe inspiring, and when you get your head around it, then try and imagine how is it remotely possible we are here, this weeny little grain of sand, among all those galaxies. and that so far we know of no other creatures like us, how is that remotely possible.

There has to be life out there, because ...

If the Universe is "infinite" ... then if there is any life whatsoever, then there will eventually be ...

No, forget it ... lost the thread.

Best policy, Noodles.

If you stay outside too long, they wine you left inside will evaporate.

I mean, not in ten minutes, obviously, but the principle is the same.
When I crack one off there is potentially millions of geniuses in that sock, but no one will ever know....

Err ... "sock" ???
i think you may be right, that technology though so advanced cannot penetrate the outer reaches of space, or so far out where other life forms might exist. When you look at Mars, the Moon, or anything remotely reachable by man, there isn't any kind of life, not the sort that has evolved over billions of years on earth. That feeling of complete aloneness, that no one will exist after earth disappears, billions of years from now, is quite extraordinary, even provided man survives that long, going on our propensity for war..
life is mysterious, it does throw up questions and very few answers, why are we here, do we have any purpose, or just filling the space. Endlessly fascinating...
