Time Travel?
I read this in another question, can someone please explain Y?
actually one answer to the where are all the time travellers question is that you would not be able to use a time machine to travel back beyond the point of its own creation. So the bookies are safe for a while!
and if the answer is because the time machine didn't exist before that point, then that means none of us would be able to go back any further then are birth date. True?

These suggestions are probably more based in explaining away the lack of evidence rather than in real theory.
A bit like UFO believers saying that they don't land in central park because everybody would go hysterical or that there's a secret deal with the world's governments.
If you do want to time travel, just get in your spaceship and travel at close to the speed of light for a bit. you'll come back being hardly any older, whereas everyone on earth is far older than you (depeneding for how long you're away). This is totally allowed within Special Relativity.
As I understand it if I built a working time machine now Sat 30/7/2005 08:03:42 then it could only travel back in time to that point. anyone born after the creation of my time machine could use it to travel back before their birth but could only travel as far as Sat 30/7/04 08:03:42.
Remember this theory only explains why we are not overrun with time travellers. Not other issues such as what happens if I travel back before I was born and kill my mother?
