If the space station is orbiting at 17500mph - how can astronauts go outside & work at this speed?

They are also travelling at the same speed as they step out the door so they stay stationary relative to the space craft.

There is no atmosphere so no wind resistance.

And the Earth is travelling round the sun at approximately 70,000 mph, and
the solar sytem's orbital speed around the galaxy is approximately 450,000 mph. Doesn't affect us, does it?

… and several distant galaxies are moving away from each other (and us) at nearly the speed of light!

It's exactly the same as if you fall out of a car - your face will go into the asphalt at the speed of the car because at the time of falling out you are travelling at the same speed as the car. It is only the road surface (and air resistance to a much lesser degree) that slows you down. In space there is nothing to slow you down.
